You ARE valuable to God

Angle 1:

Angle 2:

Needed:

  • A straight, clean, crisp bill (any paper money will do although a $5 or $10 is preferred)

Lesson:

valuable1Take the dollar and show it to the class.

Does anyone knows what this is? How much is it worth? What can I buy with it?

You will get many different answers. Use one of their answers for the rest of the lesson. In this case I am going to use the answer of “skateboard”.

Ok, so I’m going to buy a skateboard with my 10 dollars.

valuable2Crumble up the money. Make it really wrinkled.

Will my money still be accepted now that it’s all wrinkled?

You will get a chorus of “YESES”

But why?  Because it is STILL JUST AS valuable!

Put three small tears in the money

Ask, “Will I still be able to buy my skateboard with this? But why?  Because it is STILL JUST AS valuable!

valuable3Drop the money on the floor and stomp on it and ask again if they still want it and if it would still be accepted

This money has been crumpled up, stepped on, torn and ripped, but its value remains the same.

At this point, use your imagination to really make the point.  Dip it in water, put it in your armpit J etc…

This is the same with God. No matter how torn, ripped or stepped on you are, YOU are still just as valuable and as precious in his eyes.’”

“The Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’” 1 Samuel 16:7 NKJV

valuable4Everyone who is saved is beautiful in God’s eyes. He made us all special and different in many ways. As the Lord does for us, we should try to see the value in all people. We should love as He did.

We need to remember God is the one who created us and made us the way we are.

“Your hands have made me and fashioned me; give me understanding, that I may learn your commandments.” Psalm 119:73

We should not judge others but love them. How many of you know someone at school that you know doesn’t have many friends or maybe they don’t have any? Have you ever seen another child in your class at recess who goes and plays by himself or herself? Next time you see that child, say hi or go play with him or her. You could find out his or her name and even invite him or her to church. He or she is valuable too.

Remember, God does not love us because we are valuable. We are valuable because God loves us!
