Lay Not Up Treasures on Earth – 10 Trillion Dollars?

Needed:

Notes:

This is a great lesson to visually illustrate to the kids that you should strive to become rich spiritually before attempting to do so on this earth.

Matthew 6:19-21
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

You can teach us in several different ways but one that is worked is the following:

Lesson:

“Who here would like me to give you some money? I guess a better question would be, is there anyone here that would NOT like me to give them money today?”

We all need and all want things and money is one way to help us get them. And money is not necessarily bad.

1 Timothy 6:10 – For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Now I just said that not all money was bad so how can you explain this verse?

It is the LOVE of money that is the problem. Not money itself.

But today, I want to give someone some money and not just a little bit. I want to give you a lot. It doesn’t one dollar or even two or five or 10. Let’s just say it has a lot of zeros after it.

What if I were to tell you that I was going to give someone here $10 trillion. Would that make anyone here excited?

PULL OUT THE $10 TRILLION DOLLAR BILL

This is $10 trillion. It is from a country called Zimbabwe and back about 20 years ago this was worth a whole lot of money.

People would work their entire lives and not make this much money. Some people would save every penny they had, stuff it in their mattress and hope that they could save up even half of this and be able to retire and buy anything they wanted.

Imagine a man that saved for years and finally saved up even half this. He was wealthy, his friends thought he was pretty neat stuff. He had a nice car, nice house and maybe even a boat. But then things began to change.

In just a few short years the money that he had saved up became worthless. Everything that he had worked so hard for in just a matter of time became worth as much as the leaves on a tree. You see something called inflation where money starts to lose its value happened soon that rich man was penniless.

That can happen to us if we put our trust in treasure in the wrong place. You need to put your trust in something that will never change.

Matthew 24:35 – Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.

God, heaven and God’s word will never pass away! This earth, it’s money, cars, nice houses and riches will all pass away.

Put your trust in the right treasure!
