About the lesson:

This object lesson is for those in children’s ministry that really really want to push the envelope with object lessons.  On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the most “out-there” lesson, this is at least an 8.  To do this lesson you must be comfortable with fire, with being WAY out of the box, with experimentation and with rehearsing many times at home.

The lesson is about the POWER that is in the Holy Ghost.  When you get saved and Jesus living inside of you, you are not weak but completely otherwise, because now the most powerful force that has ever been known is living inside of you.

Acts 1:8 says, “and you shall receive POWER after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you”.  You are now full of the Holy Ghost and in scripture such as in Acts 2, the Holy Ghost is likened to fire which “sat upon them”.

In a prepared flask (YOU, ME AND EVERYONE) you would drop in the “Holy Ghost” which sets off a reaction which goes beyond anything you can imagine!  Out of the flask is a tube that enters bubble solution.  A volunteer comes up (preferably an adult which has been carefully instructed ahead of time), wets their hands, scoops up the bubbles and holds them away from their face which you then LIGHT ON FIRE!  It makes an incredible flame and an interesting noise and will cause the audience to gasp and likely the hair on the arms of your volunteer to shrink.

You can liken this to being a witness.  The power of God is so awesome that you don’t want to just hoard it for yourself, you want to SHARE IT WITH EVERYONE!  You want to be a light to those around you!

You then have several bottles which you and your volunteer drop the “Holy Ghost” into and then cover completely with a balloon.  After a reaction takes place, the balloons expands and when they reach the right size, you pull them off, tie them and then clip or tape them to a string held on either end by two volunteers.

You then talk about how when you are filled with the Holy Ghost you are filled with the most powerful thing EVER! Meekness is NOT weakness!  The Holy Ghost can give you confidence, courage and boldness.

You then light the balloons one by one with a candle taped to the end of a long stick which results in a very satisfying “BOOM” as each one alights.  It is simply awesome.

No matter how young or how old, how big or how small, how rich or how poor or ANYTHING else, when you get the Holy Ghost, you are a child of GOD!
