Surround Yourself With the RIGHT Things
Needed:
- Lazy Susan – I used to one below wich can be purchased from Amazon by clicking on the link
- Tuna can (empty)
- Cloth wadded up
- Any type of charcoal lighter fluid
- Screen bent into a circle or a wire mesh trash can
- Lighter
About the Lesson:
This is a very exciting if a little bit DANGEROUS lesson in involving fire. You DO have to be careful. This lesson teaches the importance of surrounding yourself with the right things that will help you live for God when those tough times of life come around as they ALWAYS will. This lesson can be taught with simple items that can, for the most part, be found around the home or at least at the local discount store.
When you light the cloth on fire and then spin the lazy susan WITHOUT the screen, nothing really happens but when you surround the flame with the screen, the fire will grow HUGE, as tall as the screen is.
Prep:
- Wad up the cloth and soak it in lighter fluid. Place the cloth into the tuna can and place it directly in the center of the lazy Susan.
- If you are using the bent screen (see the video or picture) make sure that it is very flat on the bottom and doesn’t wobble or tilt when the lazy susan is spun. If using a trash can, place this down first on the lazy susan and then place the tuna can with cloth in the center of it.
Lesson:
Does anyone know that life just doesn’t always seem fair? Sometimes we look around and it seems like the WHOLE world is happy and smiling, rich and having fun and here we are going through a tough time in our lives.
Well, actually, while we think everyone else has a perfect life, REALLY, everyone in life has troubles too. You are NOT alone… in fact, sometimes they are probably looking at YOU thinking that YOU are perfect and THEY feel left out…THAT’S JUST THE WAY LIFE IS SOMETIMES
I can tell you one thing though, that the WORST day living for JESUS is the BETTER than the BEST day NOT living for Him! When you live for God with all of your heart, even in your dark times you can always talk to Him because He is the Best friend you will ever have – He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.
We have the promise of heaven, His love and peace, the fellow saints of God AND SO MUCH MORE! Living for God is the BEST LIFE OUT THERE!
But… even in the best lives, some rain some fall. Life isn’t always sunshine, lemonade and laying in a hammock with a good book and sometimes life just doesn’t seem fair.
PULL OUT THE LAZY SUSAN AND TUB O’ FIRE
Like check out this guy, here, can we call him Jerry? Jerry is a good ol’ boy but as you can see he doesn’t quite have the Holy Ghost yet… But one day someone talks to him and invites him to church… he comes and finds out about this great God. This ONE God whose name is Jesus.
He feels something he has never felt before and for the first time in this life he comes to the altar, repents of all his sins and receives the incredible gift of the Holy Ghost. That night he is baptized in the lovely name of Jesus and ALL of his sins are COMPLETELY washed away! And that night, Jerry is set on fire… his life is completely changed
LIGHT THE TUB O’ FIRE
And now Jerry is so excited! His life is completely different. He doesn’t talk the same, walk the same, act the same or think the same. He invited everyone he can find to church and is on his way to heaven! If there is anyone here that has ever had this experience, you can have it today too! You can get the Holy Ghost – have Jesus come and live inside of you!
But do you think Jerry never have a problem again? Do you think everything was perfect for Jerry forever after… That all of a sudden he always had enough money, has a good car, plenty of steaks in the fridge and no problems? Well, that isn’t the way it always works out…. Of course my God takes care of us, but sometimes we need to go through something s that will help us become exactly what god wants us to be
Well, while Jerry got the Holy Ghost, he didn’t surround himself with the things that would have helped him live for God when times got tough. You see, he still was hanging around those old friends and every time he went to church they would make fun of him and tell him that he was a sissy boy for going to church. They would ask him why he didn’t do things he used to do. Why he didn’t play the same video games he used to play or say the same words he used to say.
And Jerry started to feel embarrassed for living for God. Jerry didn’t pray the way he should have or read his bible each day. He never fasted and never talked to his pastor or teacher about some of the problems he was facing AND then a problem came up in his life. Life began to spin around crazily for Jerry!
START SPINNING THE LAZY SUSAN
You see, problem WILL come up, it is just a matter of time and when Gerry’s life started whirling around, he didn’t have anything to help him and instead of his problems making his stronger in God. His problems actually brought him down. He got discouraged and soon his fire grew smaller and smaller and smaller until it went out completely
COVER THE TUB O FIRE UNTIL IT GOES OUT
BUT, what if it had been different? What if Jerry HAD protected himself with the right things? WELL LET’S FIND OUT!
This time when Jerry got filled with the Holy Ghost, he went in wholesale! He said, I AM GOING TO LIVE FOR GOD WITH ALL MY HEART! I am holding nothing back and he invited his old friends to church and those that came and were also changed, he still hung around with but those that just made him feel stupid for living for God, he sadly had to let them go. He started each day by praying and spending time with his God. He started each day by reading the Word of God and he even started skipping meals every now and then and used that sacrifice to bring him closer to God
Jerry did all the right things and while he didn’t even realize it, he had surrounded his life with things that would HELP him live for God
PUT THE SCREEN AROUND THE LAZY SUSAN
No matter what, things WILL happen in your life. NO matter what you do, sometimes rain will come into your perfect sunny day but it doesn’t mean you have done anything wrong, it is just part of living. And that is exactly what happened to Jerry. Perhaps, it was a loved one leaving or maybe his family started having a tough time with finances but whatever it was, Jerry life started spinning out of control.
BUT no matter what happens, GOD is in control and HE CAN use those circumstances to make you better and more excited about living for God.
START SPINNING THE LAZY SUSAN – THIS TIME WITH THE SCREEN, THE FIRE WILL GROW HUGE!
“AND LOOK AT THAT! BECAUSE JERRY SURROUNDED HIMSELF WITH THE THINGS OF GOD, INSTEAD OF HIS FIRE GETTING SMALLER AND EVEN GOING OUT, HE IS BURNING BRIGHTER FOR GOD THAN EVER!
And that can happen for you as well… God wants the bad things that happen in this life to make us better and stronger Christians. He is not out to hurt us… He loves us and wants the very best for us.
