Live So God Can Use You | Be Ready for Use!

Needed:

• Good hammer
• Hammer broken in two pieces
• Hammer covered in something visibly gross like peanut butter
• Flyswatter
• Nails
• Wooden easel (or something similar) with one leg that has been purposely broken and has been very loosely put back together again.  One little bump will knock it over and “break” it again.  The only way to fix it is to nail it back together again.

Lesson:

You actually want to start out by pretending to teach a TOTALLY DIFFERENT LESSON.  Begin talking about just about anything and use your easel as a prop.

As you begin to speak, “accidentally” turn suddenly and hit the easel, knocking it down and “breaking it”.  Now, before you do your fake lesson, you must first fix the easel. This, of course, introduces the “real” lesson.

Oh great… I broke it… now I can’t do my lesson until I fix it.  Sigh… it’s ok I’m very good at fixing things so all I need is a hammer and some nails.  And look here!  I have some right here!

Pull some nails out of your pocket that just so happen to be conveniently there!

And now I just need my hammer.

Look around for it without success.

Where is my hammer? I thought it was here… argh…  HELPER! Can you please bring me my hammer?

HAVE HELPER BRING IN A FLYSWATTER

Perfect… now I have my ham… WHAT IS THIS? This is no hammer!

PRETEND TO HAVE WHISPERED ARGUMENT WITH HELPER

Oh, I see… never mind… I was apparently wrong. Apparently this… (HOLD UP FLYSWATTER) SAID it was a hammer… uh… ok. So, yeah… this IS a hammer… I just didn’t recognize it for what it was.

TRY TO NAIL THE TWO BOARDS TOGETHER USING THE “HAMMER” AND NAILS… GET FRUSTRATED AND FINALLY THROW THE FLYSWATTER

That is NO HAMMER! No, NO NO!!! I need a REALLY hammer… that was just something PRETENDING TO BE A HAMMER!  Just because you call yourself something doesn’t mean that is what you really are!

Helper! Please bring me a REAL hammer!

HAVE HELPER BRING A HAMMER THAT IS DISGUSTING… COMPLETELY COVERED IN SOMETHING REALLY YUCKY LIKE PEANUT BUTTER OR SOMETHING. PRETEND NOT TO BE LOOKING AT IT WHEN THEY COME AND SET IT DOWN ON THE TABLE

Thank you so much… Now that I have a REAL hammer I can begin…

REACH OVER, GRAB THE HAMMER AND PRETEND NOT TO NOTICE HOW DISGUSTING IT IS FOR A WHILE

YUCK!!! WHAT IS THIS?! I cannot use this! It is disgusting… covered in filth and yuckiness. I cannot use anything that is THIS dirty. If I do, it will make a mess of Everything! Just look at my hands!

HELPER! Bring me a ANOTHER hammer… one that is CLEAN this time please!

HAVE HELP TAKE AWAY THE GROSS HAMMER AND RETURN WITH ONE THAT IS BROKEN IN HALF OR MAYBE THAT HAS THE HEAD OFF IT… HAVE THEM BRING IT IN 2 OR MORE PIECES AND SET IT ON THE TABLE WHERE YOU DON’T NOTICE IT YET AGAIN

Ok… NOW that I have a hammer that is a REAL hammer and one that is NOT completely disgusting we CAN finally do what I am SUPPOSED to be doing for God.

PICK UP THE HANDLE OR BROKEN PIECE OF HAMMER AND TRY TO KNOCK IN THE NAIL… LOOK QUIZZICALLY AT IT AND THEN GET VERY ANGRY!

WHAT IS THIS?! NO NO NO! This is broken! It isn’t ready to be used… how am I supposed to use something that isn’t in good condition… this just is NOT right!

HELPER! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BRING ME A HAMMER THAT IS NOT BROKEN, NOT DIRTY, AND THAT REALLY IS A HAMMER! HOW AM I supposed to get anything done with these poor excuses for a hammer you are giving me?

HELPER FINALLY BRINGS IN A GOOD, CLEAN, ONE-PIECE, WORKING HAMMER AND SETS IT DOWN.  PICK IT UP, GIVE IT A COUPLE OF PRACTICE SWINGS AND THEN PUT IN A NAIL

See! Look at that! It works!

HOLD UP THE HAMMER

You know… this reminds me a WHOLE LOT of people that say they want to be used of God but they just are NOT READY to be used.

Some people want God to use them… they CALL themselves a Christian but when God needs someone, He looks at them, and they are JUST NOT CHRISTIANS!

• They don’t dress right
• Act right
• Talk right
• Look right

THEY JUST AREN’T RIGHT! – If you want God to use you, you NEED TO REALLY BE A CHRISTIAN.  Not a fake that is CALLED A CHRISTIAN

AND if you want to be used by God you MUST BE CLEAN.  You cannot be out doing the things of the world and expect God to use you.  You need to be reading your bible, coming to church, getting behind the preaching and praying and reading your bible daily.  You need to be careful of the things you allow into your mind and heart.  Be careful what you allow on your phone (if you have one).  Be careful what you allow on your computer.  Be careful what video games you play!  LET NO WICKED THING BEFORE YOUR EYES

And if you are broken… Let God put your life back together again. Give the pieces to God and say, JESUS! Please let me be used by you!  Help me be what You want me to be. And God will ALWAYS put you back together again if you let Him.

You know there is a song that says… “I want to live so, God can use me… ANYWHERE… ANYTIME”.  This is EXACTLY what we need to do.   Make ourselves right so that whatever God needs to be done, we are READY to be used.  We don’t have the time to fix things that aren’t right or to get cleaned up.  WE NEED TO BE INSTANT IN AND OUT OF SEASON TO DO THE WORK OF GOD.
