Life Without Jesus Is Like A Donut / Thanksgiving – User Submitted!
The first lesson / puppet show was submitted by Kayla McGuffey from Marysville, WA. Thank you for your contribution!
Lesson #1 / Puppet Show – Jesus can fill the emptiness inside of you”
Another lesson thankfulness using this same prop follows below
This lesson / puppet show is based on a great song by The Donut Man on an album call A Baker’s Dozen. You can purchase just that track or the entire album iTunes by clicking the link below:
The Donut Man has some great songs. My favorite is ” Life without Jesus is like a donut… there’s a hole in the middle of your heart!”
Spray paint some dollar store inner tubes and the arm floaties and hot glue some solid color straws cut in pieces for sprinkles and you have yourself donuts and donut holes.
See the following clip for step-by-step information on how to make it (this link is not affiliated with Apostolic Sunday School):
Add a few puppets that sing and throw individually wrapped donut holes at the kids and you have yourself a puppet show ?
Lesson #2 – Being thankful:
FYI, you can also use this same prop you created above for a GREAT lesson on Thankfulness
“Although we should always be thankful to God this is a special time of remembering the many wonderful blessings that we have.
When someone gives us something or does something to help us it is important to say “Thank you” to them. It’s very important that we don’t forget to say thank you to God too.
This morning I wanted to share with you a little rhyme I learned when I was very young. But first I want to see if you know what this is.
(Hold up your doughnut)
Here is my rhyme: “As you go through life make this your goal; look at the doughnut and not the hole.”
We’ll say it together.
(Get the children to say it a few times.)
Let me explain what it means. If I gave you a doughnut I bet you’d be pretty happy. Wouldn’t it be sad if you focused your attention on the hole in the middle and complained about the hole!
If you did that you’d be drawing your attention to what isn’t there rather than what is there.
Sadly, some people go through life noticing what they are missing and they never really notice the good things they do have.
Our little rhyme about looking at “the doughnut and not the hole” can remind us to see the many good things in life we do have. That’s important to do as we go through life.
