This Heart is Full – Protection of the Holy Ghost (Balloon Version)

Needed:

  • Candle
  • Lighter
  • 2 Balloons
  • Water

Prep:

  • Blow up one balloon with just air, tie it off and set it aside.
  • Stretch out a second balloon by blowing it up and letting the air back out, then fill up the empty balloon as much as possible with water.  Once full, blow it up with air until it is the same size as the first balloon  and tie it off. You will then have a balloon with a puddle of water at the bottom of it.
  • Setup and light a candle.

Lesson:

balloon1“Things that come against you in life can have disastrous effects upon you.”

Take the balloon that is full only if there and hold it over the lit candle. It will pop very quickly.

“Just like this balloon we are very easily messed up by things that come against us unless we have Jesus helping us deal with them. This balloon…”

Hold up the balloon that has the water in it.

“… is full of the Holy Ghost and that God will him deal with the things that come against them.”

Hold the balloon over the lit candle and you will find that no matter how long you leave it there the balloon will not pop.

“When you are FULL of the Holy Ghost, Jesus that is living inside of you will help you deal with the problems of life.  You never want to be empty. Always make sure your heart is full of the Holy Ghost.”

UPDATE:

A user of the website just recommended the following which is fantastic!

This past Sunday, we learned about Daniel and the lion’s den. We learned about Having courage to stand alone like Daniel did and having courage to be Apostolic. (Which is the unit series we are in “Courage to be apostolic)

I wanted to incorporate that when you stand up like Daniel did, God will protect you! Well, I decided to do the object lesson that involves placing a balloon with just air over fire and one with water. The balloon with just air in it, of course popped, the one with water doesn’t pop. This idea came from when I was practicing the experiment. I was not putting enough water in the one balloon, so at the right angle and height of the fire, it too would pop.

I went through 4-5 balloons trying to figure out how much water I needed so that it didn’t explode in my face. After discovering a correct amount, I was satisfied with the lesson. While thinking about that balloon with some water in it but not enough to prevent the damage, God began to speak to me. this is how I applied a third balloon to the lesson.

There were 3 balloons. One is just filled with air, one has a little bit of water in it, and the last has a good amount of water. Two of the three looked exactly the same. (Mine were graffiti looking balloons) The 3 balloons represents three people. The first is a sinner and he/she doesn’t go to church. (drag on that he/she was not saved) The second looks like the first but he/she has had the Holy Ghost (shake balloon to show there is water in it). This person could be a person who backslides or a person who is ashamed of the Gospel. This is full of the Holy Ghost.

The script is just dragging out how the one is a sinner, the second is a back slider/ashamed of the Gospel, but the last is a Saint that is excited about living for God. As you describe each person, pick them up and place them over the fire.

Be ready for the second to explode and you get water on you!!!
