God Will Be There for You | Break the Egg

What you need:

• 12 or 16-ounce clear glass about three-quarters full of water
• A couple of raw eggs
• A cardboard toilet paper tube
• A cardboard paper towel tube
• A pie pan
• A towel because you will likely make a bit of a mess
• Optional but really cool, a total of 5 eggs, 5 toilet paper tubes, 5 glasses of water and a small cookie sheet with a lip on the sides.

Lesson:

HOLD UP THE EGG

This egg represents each of us. We feel fragile. We feel like we could just break at any minute and shatter into a hundred piece and make a huge mess of our lives.

There are a lot of things in life that people put their trust in. People want to feel secure and they want to feel like everything is going to be okay and so they surround themselves with things to ensure that life will be good.

What are some things that people put their trust in?

THE KIDS ARE GOING TO COME UP WITH ALL KINDS OF THINGS AND YOU CAN HELP GUIDE THEM WITH THE FOLLOWING LIST OR WITH ANYTHING ELSE YOU COME UP WITH.

• Big houses
• Good jobs
• Cars
• Toys
• Money
• Family
• Friends
• Themselves

But what they don’t understand is that when everything else fails that there is only one thing that we can truly put our trust and that will never fail. And that is God. We can never forget that God is completely in control!

Sometimes life puts you in a precarious situation.

SLOWLY BUILD THE TOWER IN FRONT OF THE KIDS WHILE TALKING TO THEM.  PUT THE DRINKING GLASS ON THE TABLE, CENTER THE PIE PAN ON TOP, BALANCE THE TOILET PAPER TUBE ON THE PIE PAN EXACTLY OVER THE VERY CENTER OF THE MOUTH OF THE CLASS. FINALLY, ON THE VERY TOP OF THE TOILET PAPER TUBE PLACE THE RAW EGG.

God should be the foundation of everything that we do (SAY THIS AS YOU PLACE THE FULL GLASS OF WATER IN THE CENTER OF THE TABLE)

But life gets very complicated and very scary, very quickly (SAY THIS AS YOU PLACE THE PIE PAN AND TOILET PAPER TUBE ON TOP OF THE GLASS)

And here we are on top of this whole scary thing. We feel like we could just take a tumble in any moment and that disaster is just around the corner (SAY THIS AS YOU PLACE THE EGG ON THE VERY TOP)

It can be daunting and scary…

WILL WE REALLY ALWAYS TRUST THAT GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF US? Will we really?

Will you trust God when things are going good?

What about when they are going badly?

When it seems like the whole world is against you? Will you STILL trust Him?

What about when something crazy comes into your life… a terrible situation that you feel could destroy you?

When the bully at school is picking on you?

SMACK THE PIE PAN SHARPLY ON THE SIDE, KNOCKING THE PAN AND TOILET PAPER ROLL AWAY. THE EGG SHOULD FALL NEATLY INTO THE CUP OF WATER AND REMAIN THERE UNBROKEN. OBVIOUSLY, YOU WANT TO PRACTICE IS QUITE A BIT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU’RE COMFORTABLE WITH THIS PROCESS BEFORE YOU EVER DO IT LIVE IN A CLASSROOM.

God is always there to catch you. He loves us and is always in control, no matter how crazy life can get as long as we JUST TRUST HIM!

Trust is like Joy. It is not dependent on your circumstances. Trust should exist NO MATTER WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND YOU.

Job said, in Job 1:21… the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.

But what about when something really crazy comes long? What about when someone you love walks out of your life or passes away? Can we still trust in God?

BUILD THE TOWER AGAIN BUT THIS TIME INSTEAD OF THE SHORT TOILET PAPER TUBE USE THE PAPER TOWEL TUBE.

ISAIAH 41:10 – Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

God will always be there for you! No matter where life takes us God is always there. No matter how silly you get never forget that God will always love you. God never changes no matter how much we do.

SMACK THE PIE PAN AGAIN IN THE EGG SHOULD ONCE AGAIN NEATLY FALL STRAIGHT INTO THE CUP

JOHN 10:28-30 – And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

IF YOU REALLY WANT TO UP THE ANTE, PLACE 5 CUPS NEXT ONE ANOTHER ON THE TABLE GROUP IS TIGHTLY TOGETHER AS YOU CAN GET THEM. ON TOP OF THE GLASSES PLACE THE COOKIE SHEET AND ON TOP OF THE COOKIE SHEET PLACE THE 5 TOILET PAPER TUBES PERFECTLY CENTERED OVER EACH OF THE CUPS. ON EACH OF THE TOILET PAPER TUBES PLACE AN EGG.

PSALM 46:1 – God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

So no matter what others may trust in, we can never forget to always place our trust in God. When we seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness God will add the good things in life to us.

PSALM 20:7 – Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
