Go All The Way | Object Lesson
This is an object lesson that can help you teach your class about how we need to be saved ALL THE WAY! You cannot just do SOME of it and expect to make it in.
Props Needed:
- A bowl of pancake batter (un-cooked)
- A cooking utensil (spatula or spoon)
- A picture of a pancake or an actual cooked pancake (optional)
Objective:
This lesson highlights the importance of the Holy Ghost in completing the Plan of Salvation. It helps students understand that just like pancake batter needs heat to become something solid, our faith and salvation need the Holy Ghost to be complete and full of power.
Instructions for the Teacher:
Begin by asking the class if they’ve ever tried to make pancakes. Hold up the bowl of pancake batter (without cooking it) and show them the ingredients. Mention that while the batter contains everything it needs to be delicious pancakes—flour, eggs, milk, and other ingredients—it’s not quite ready yet. Point out that it looks messy, and it isn’t really a pancake until it’s cooked.
Tell the class that the same is true with the Plan of Salvation. We’ve learned about repentance and baptism, but there’s one last step we need for our spiritual “recipe”—receiving the Holy Ghost. Without the Holy Ghost, our salvation is like pancake batter that hasn’t been cooked—it’s incomplete. While it has all the necessary parts, it’s not yet “done.”
Explain to the class that just as pancake batter needs heat to change into a delicious, solid pancake, we need the Holy Ghost to complete our salvation. Without the Holy Ghost, we don’t have the power to live fully for God and walk in His ways. This step is vital in completing the Plan of Salvation and making it to heaven.
If you have a cooked pancake, show it to the class and compare it to the pancake batter. The pancake is solid and useful, just like how receiving the Holy Ghost completes our salvation and makes us strong and ready to live a victorious Christian life.
Encourage the students to remember that receiving the Holy Ghost is not just an important part of salvation—it’s the power we need to live as true followers of Jesus. Without it, our spiritual journey is incomplete, like the pancake batter waiting to be cooked.
Close the lesson by reminding the students that all the steps in the Plan of Salvation—repentance, baptism, and receiving the Holy Ghost—are essential. Just like it’s important to make sure all the buttons are buttoned and your shoes are on the right feet before you leave the house, it’s equally important to follow all the steps to be saved.
Note: To make this lesson more engaging and humorous, have someone rush in, unprepared for class, just like the person in the video. This unexpected moment will grab the kids’ attention and turn the lesson from something they might overlook into something funny and memorable. It adds a fun twist that will keep them engaged and focused.
