Freed From Sin? | Rope and Ring

What you need:

• A solid ring of some kind about 3″ in diameter or anything close.  For bigger classrooms, bigger is generally better but if it is too big it will cause problems trying to remove it from the rope later. (You can use anything from a plastic kid’s toy to some metal ring you find laying about)
• A rope about 4 feet long
• A red towel

About the lesson:

In this Christian illusion, what spectators don’t know is that even though the ring appears to be tied securely to the rope, you can easily remove it. It’s all in the “knot” and the means with which you secure the ring. You’ll accomplish the “escape” under the cover of the towel. You can see exactly how this is done at the end of the article.

Lesson:

Today were going to talk about how the devil is out to get us by God has everything in control.  If we live for Him we don’t have anything to worry about.

The devil has a lot of tricks up his sleeves. He tries a lot of things to try to keep us from making it to heaven. When you make up your mind that you are going to live for God and do what’s right, do you think that nothing will ever come against you?

No? In fact you may have friends or even unsaved family or other people that try to convince you that living for God isn’t a good idea. They may even make fun of you.

Another thing he may try to do is to put a big long word in front of you. That word is TEMPTATION. That is where he will put things in front of you in an attempt to make you do the wrong things. He studies us and finds what we struggle with and that’s what he is going to put in our way.

This here is us.

HOLD UP THE RING

We’re doing our best to live for God and we want to live for Him don’t we? But that stinky devil will do his best to stop us.

HAND ONE END OF THE ROPE TO ONE OF YOUR VOLUNTEERS

He takes the temptation and tries to wrap us up. He tries to tie us up in sin and make it where we feel like there is no way that we could ever live for God. Like there is no way we could be free.

USE THE FREE END OF THE ROPE AND TIE THE LOOP KNOT COMPLETELY AROUND THE RING. TUG ON IT AND DRAMATICALLY AND EMPHASIZE HOW TIGHT IT IS AND THAT IT COULD NEVER COME FREE. HAND THE OTHER END TO YOUR 2ND VOLUNTEER!

AND LOOK AT THAT! Now we’re trapped? We’re never going to get free! We’re trapped by sin and the enemy has one. We’re trapped by our own decisions, our own sin and the temptations that were laid in our way.

But Jesus loves us more than we can ever imagine. Just like it says in 1 John 1:9, if we repent of all our sins, tell God you are truly sorry and mean it from the bottom of your heart He will completely and totally forgive you.

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

LAY THE RED TOWEL OVER THE RING COMPLETELY COVERING IT

The book of Leviticus 17:11 says, “for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.” The blood of Jesus will cover our sins completely. All we have to do is tell Jesus we’re sorry and God will take care of the rest. He will give us strength to fight against us temptations in the future.

But the devil thinks he has us trapped. He thinks he has us completely bound up but he is no match for the blood of Jesus.
If you let Jesus come into your life, if you let Him begin to work on you incredible things will happen.

AS YOU SAY THE PREVIOUS STATEMENT PULL THE LOOP ON THE KNOT AND SLIP IT AROUND THE RING FREEING IT COMPLETELY FROM THE ROPE.

GOD WILL SET YOU FREE! Everything the enemy tried to do backfired.

HOLD UP THE RING AND SHOW THAT IT IS SEPARATE FROM THE ROPE.

Secret:

It appears that the hoop it tied onto the string. It’s actually quite secure, but you can easily remove it when you wish.

Tying the knot at the beginning of the lesson ss actually a bit tricky because you want to make the knot shown below but you don’t want to tie it the easy way because if you do everyone will know that it can just as easily come back off.  You need to create the proper knot but do it only with one free end weaving in and out of the ring.

 I’m sure I’m not explaining this terribly well so if you look at the video above it will help a lot.

This picture gives you a close-up view of the knot.

To make the trick even better, you can ask the spectators to test the ring ahead of time to ensure it is a solid piece.  Once you have tied the rope to the ring you can also have them pull on the ring to make sure that it’s securely tied to the rope.

To remove the hoop, under the cover of the towel, simply ask for some slack in the string from the volunteers and then grab the main loop and pull it to open it and pass the ring through and off of the string.
