Lesson:

HOLD UP THE TWO SCIENCE BALLS

Right here I have two people.  I know it may not look like 2 people but they really are.  These two people are called Tom and Fred.

They look alike.  They have the same shape, size, color, weight but yet they are very different on the inside.  One of them has been living right and doing what God wants him to do, reading his Bible, praying, going to church, not hanging around bad friend and so much more but the other guy hasn’t been quite so “on his game”.

He always had an excuse about why he couldn’t go to church… maybe he didn’t feel well so he had to stay home or maybe on Sunday morning when he wanted to play his new favorite video game he instead told his gullible parents that he had to study for an important test and when they left, he played all morning long, never studied and missed out on a great Sunday School lesson.

They look the same but the condition of their hearts are very different indeed.  So What will happened when something bad happens in their lives?  Will they have the fortitude, trust and faith in God to bounce back and still responds correctly or will they flop when adversity comes against them as it no doubt sometime will in our lives?

BOUNCE THE GOOD BALL AGAINST A HARD SURFACE – IT SHOULD BOUNCE VERY HIGH INDEED

Wow! Check that out! It sure looks like Tom has been living right!  Look at him!  He bounces just fine, he has been living right and doing the right things.

But what about Fred?

HOLD UP THE OTHER BALL AND THEN BOUNCE IT AGAINST THE SAME HARD SURFACE – IT SHOULD HIT WITH A THUD AND NOT BOUNCE VERY LITTLE

What!? Did you see that?  He went through the same obstacle that Tom did but Fred didn’t respond the same way did he?

BOUNCE THE TWO BALLS OFF AND ON AND SHOW THE DIFFERENCE IN THEIR RESPOND

You this is just like people I have seen in church, some of them sit right next to each other.  One of them is on fire for God and the other one pretends to be on fire. They both look right, seemingly act right, they both know when to run the aisles, when to clap their hands, when to say ‘Amen’.  But one of them is right, and one is not.

I will let you guess which is which.
