Beads of Sin | One Sin Leads to Another
What you need:
- A clear container big enough to hold the string of beads
- A long string of beads – the one I used was 24 yards (72 feet) long and can be obtained from Amazon.com using the link below
About the lesson:
- This is a fun lesson to teach your class about how “playing” with sin can get you in trouble.
- You start with a container full of beads but all it takes is a slight tug and the string of beads pulls itself out of the container and onto the floor in a few seconds
Preparation:
This is super important! Carefully put the beads into the container making very sure that you drop them in a line from the bottom to the top. Don’t just wad them up and put them in… they have to flow out without catching on themselves.
Note: when you are done with the lesson you will be tempted to grab the wad of beads and stuff them into something until you can put them away properly. I found to my dismay that this will make knots that are TERRIBLE to unwind later. Slide them carefully to the side and when you can, take the time to put them back in the container properly.
Lesson:
Today we are going to be talking about that dreaded word, “sin”. The devil wants you to do things that you will later regret and he has found out something about human nature, that once we have made one mistake, the next one is so much easier to make. There is a saying, “It is easier to keep the lion in the cage in the first place than it is to try to get him back in again later after he gets out”. Sometimes when we make a silly decision it can open the door to things that we regret for a long time to come.
So today I have a cup of sin! Oh yes! I know it may not look exactly like it but that is just what it is!
HOLD UP THE CONTAINER OF BEADS
We are going to find out today that if you start playing with sin, sometimes it is going to get away from you and if left unchecked it can take over your whole life.
Today I have this container just FULL of sin but I don’t want all of it, I just want to play with a little of it. I don’t want in too deep… I just want to toy with the world. I just want to see what is out there… I just want to play with it a little bit. I want to know what the other kids are doing, what everyone does. Surely it cause that much trouble right? It just a little sin.
PULL THE VERY END OF THE STRING OF BEADS SHARPLY DOWN TO START THE REACTION
It won’t be a big deal right? AHHHHHH!!!! STOP IT, STOP IT!!! MAKE IT STOP! NO NO NO NO!
PANIC AS ALL THE BEADS LEAVE THE CONTAINER IN JUST A SHORT TIME
PICK UP THE PILE OF BEADS
And look at that… all that came from one little silly decision. Bad choices have consequences. One sin can lead to another so easily so we need to be very careful. It can be like the potato chips motto, “No one can eat just one”.
But GOD IS GOOD and He can give you the grace to live for Him and to do what is right no matter what is going on around you!
1 John 4:4 – Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
